Eldest MP Arjun Narasingha KC takes oath before President Paudel

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, March 25: Newly elected senior-most member of the House of Representatives(HoR), Arjun Narasingha KC, took the oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel today.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the President’s official residence, Shital Niwas, on Wednesday. KC was sworn in as the senior member of the HoR.

The event was attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Dahal, ministers, heads of constitutional bodies, and other high-ranking officials, according to the Office of the President.

KC was elected to the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system from the Nepali Congress in the elections held on March 5. He is 78 years old.

As the senior-most member, KC will administer the oath of office to other members of the House of Representatives on March 26. By parliamentary tradition, the senior member presides over House meetings until the speaker is elected.

A total of 275 members have been elected to the House of Representatives, including 165 through the first-past-the-post system and 110 through proportional representation.
