PM Karki offers prayers at Janaki Temple

By Dharmendra Jha, Janakpurdham, March 20: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has offered prayers at the Janaki Temple, a major religious site for Hindus, on Friday.

She visited the temple along with her husband and performed rituals as per Hindu traditions.

Ram Tapeshwar Das, Mahanta of the temple, conducted the prayers and light ceremony (Aarati) for the Prime Minister in accordance with religious customs.

During the visit, the Mahanta honoured her with a garland and a sacred chunari (offered to Goddess Janaki).

The Prime Minister also offered prayers to the one lakh twenty-five thousand Shaligram stones worshipped daily at the temple.

She also participated in the ongoing Sita-Ram Akhanda Kirtan and chanted prayers for a while.

Prime Minister Karki entered the temple at around 11:40 am and spent about 15 minutes performing rituals.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, she said that the trip was purely religious in nature.
