Ek Mutthi Badal to be released on May 15

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 9: Ek Mutthi Badal: My Share of Sky is set to be released in cinemas across Nepal on May 15.

According to a press release issued by the production company Gauthali Entertainment, the film is a family drama that explores the emotional tensions within a Nepali household spanning three generations.

Set over the course of a single day, Ek Mutthi Badal: My Share of Sky follows a family navigating expectations, sacrifice and personal aspirations against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Nepali society, the statement said.

The film is written and directed by Sahara Sharma. With this project, Sharma also became the first Nepali woman filmmaker to receive the Hubert Bals Fund + Europe Post-Production Grant, one of the world’s most respected funding initiatives supporting independent cinema.

The film is produced by Abhimanyu Dixit, with Nikun Shrestha serving as executive producer. The producing team also includes German producer Sara Fazilat, alongside Samipya Raj Timalsena and Anup Poudel.

In 2021, Dixit received the Rotterdam Lab Award at the NFDC Film Bazaar in India, recognising him as an emerging South Asian producer. The project has also participated in several international development and industry initiatives, including programmes linked to the Marché du Film in France, the Locarno Open Doors Consultancy in Switzerland, and the West Meets East Screenplay Lab.

The film features performances by Aanchal Sharma, Sahayog Adhikari, Nisha Sharma, Sekhar Chapagain and Usha Rajak, among others.

Its cinematography is  directed  by Linh Dan Nguyen Phan, who made history as the first Vietnamese woman to shoot a feature film; this project marks her seventh feature. Production design is by Yashasvi Sabharwal, whose work on All We Imagine as Light contributed to the film winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Editing is by acclaimed Indian editor Deepa Bhatia, known internationally for her work on Taare Zameen Par.
