Kathmandu, Feb 13: The National Assembly (NA) Chairman, Narayan Prasad Dahal, has said the 19th session of the NA made significant achievements despite a tough political situation in the post Gen-Z Movement and a short time for the NA session.
In today's NA meeting, Chairman Dahal stated that the total time for the NA session was brief but had a prideful impact in terms of performance.
The first meeting of the NA's 19th session had commenced on January 18 and convened for total 27 days with nine meetings, Chairman Dahal mentioned.
According to Chairman Dahal, the NA session has sent the Intangible Cultural Property (Protection) Bill 2081 to the Legislation Management Committee for clausewise discussions and the Tourism Bill 2081, the Film Board Bill 2081 and the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill 2081 have been sent to the House of Representatives (HoR) for the endorsement.
In the meantime, the government has recalled Social Networks Bill 2081.
Likewise, the Ordinance Relating to the Amendment of the Voter Namelist Act 2073, the HoR Member First Amendment Ordinance 2082 and the Ordinance on Nepal Special Assembly Act (Second Amendment) were tabled in the NA meeting and approved unanimously.
The NA Chairman informed the meeting that question-answer programmes with the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and the Ministry of Finance were conducted to hold the government accountable to the parliament.
During the same period, NA members Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Bhagawati Neupane and Bamdev Gautam tendered their resignation, and NA Member Baldev Bohora elected from Sudurpaschim Province passed away, the NA Chairman shared in the NA meeting.
Dr Beduram Bhusal informed that in the current session of the NA, three bills were passed, three endorsed and one sent to a committee for discussion. Four study reports were presented in the session, among which, two were discussed.
He viewed question was being raised over security atmosphere for the forthcoming House of Representatives election. Bhusal drew government's attention towards this end.
Krishna Bahadur Rokaya claimed that nine meetings were held in the current session of NA and significant tasks were carried out. Even the committee did well during this period. He also questioned whether election would resolve the national problems.
Gopal Bhattarai underlined the conduct of HoR election in a free and fair atmosphere. Restoring confidence of security persons along with recovery of looted weapons is imperative for election, he viewed.
Tul Prasad Bishwokarma said the government must devote to ensuring safe atmosphere for election. Those involved in vandalism and attacks must be brought to book, he added.
