By Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, Jhapa, Feb.13: Police have found a dead elephant in a Deep Jyoti Community Forest located at Kachankawal Rural Municipality-7 of Jhapa district.
According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, the forest officer of the community forest found the dead elephant in the area of Jalthal forest of Jhapa on Thursday afternoon, and informed the Division Forest Office, Chandragadi.
Lately, there has been an increase in elephant movement in the area.
"The technical team deployed by the Forest Office reached the incident site, took a stock of the situation, and completed the legal procedure by preparing a report and managing the dead body of the elephant," said Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of District Police Office, Jhapa.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Conservationist Shankar Luitel said that it is sad that the deceased elephants are being found repeatedly in Jhapa, which is affected by wild elephants.
He said that repetitive findings of dead elephants, but his lack of serious investigation into this is adding to the challenge to conservation.
