Kathmandu, Feb 9: Major General Gerald Mark Strickland of the British Army, along with his delegation, presented the annual report of the Gurkha Brigade to President Ramchandra Paudel.
On the occasion, President Paudel stated that Nepal and the United Kingdom have been cooperating on issues related to development, human welfare, and peace at international forums, and that both countries share similar views on establishing world peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions.
He noted that Nepal and the United Kingdom have enjoyed close relations for centuries and expressed gratitude for the United Kingdom’s continued support for Nepal’s development as an important development partner.
President Paudel expressed satisfaction that the British Gurkhas, through their commendable service, have further strengthened bilateral relations between Nepal and the UK.
He also said that Nepali in the United Kingdom has further reinforced people-to-people ties between the two countries, according to the President’s Secretariat.
He mentioned that diplomatic-level discussions are underway to address some legitimate grievances of former British Gurkhas and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved soon through bilateral mechanisms.
Thanking the UK government for presenting the 2025 annual report of the Brigade of Gurkhas, President Paudel said that the concerned agencies would conduct the necessary study of the report.
On the same occasion, Major General Gerald Mark Strickland of the British Army praised the British Gurkha force, stating that it has always remained on the front line.
He said he often reminds recruited youths that they are sons and daughters of Nepal, and noted that the British people express love and respect for Nepali Gurkhas.
The British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, was also present at the event.
