People receiving social security allowance to get free medical treatment

Kathmandu, Nov 28: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is to provide free treatment service to the individuals entitled to social security allowance.

The KMC has already forwarded a process to provide free treatment to senior citizens, single women, persons facing violence, disabled persons, as well as gender-violence victims.

KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol said the KMC has already made agreement with Chhatrapati Free Clinic-Hospital for the current fiscal year for this purpose.

Similarly, KMC Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain said the needy people would get treatment service easily, urging the hospital to deliver service stopping its possible misuse. 

As per the agreement, people's representatives of KMC, employees would also get treatment service there while mammogram service would be provided to women employees and people's representatives. 

A recommendation of Social Development Department would be needed for the people who faced gender violence, single women, and disabled persons as well as for employees who should undergo a CT scan. The KMC would bear the expenses of this treatment service. It has allocated Rs 15 million in the budget of the current fiscal year for this purpose. 

The hospital would add 30 per cent of Rs 15 million and treatment service worth Rs 18 million would be provided, shared the KMC. 

Identity card is mandatory for KMC employees and people's representatives while the social security allowance card, the national identity card, citizenship card is required for senior citizens to avail of the free treatment service. (RSS)
