Mahara released on Rs 2 million bail
Kathmandu, Nov 27: The High Court Patan has ordered the release of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, accused of gold smuggling through VEP, on a bail amount of Rs 2 million.
A division bench of judges—Arjun Prasad Koirala and Tejendra Prasad Sharma Sapkota—issued such order on Thursday. The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested Mahara in the second week of October.
The Kathmandu District Court's decision to remand Mahara to custody failed to align with legal requirements, reads the order. (RSS)
