By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov 27: The 8th Social Security Day is being observed today under the slogan, “Social Security: Access to universal health services, pensionable society, and protection of citizens’ lives with increased productivity."
The day commemorates the launch of Nepal’s contribution-based social security program eight years ago, guided by the principle of “Social security and employment as the basis of good labor relations.”
A day has been celebrated by organizing a special event at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, with Prime Minsiter Sushila Karki as chief guest.

Addressing a special program, PM Karki said that in a country like ours, the effective implementation of contributory social security is indispensable to balance the intergenerational costs and make social security equitable.
Its successful implementation will lead to the creation of a productive society based on the principle of social solidarity, where the haves and have-nots, the rich and the poor, and the healthy and the sick, systematically help each other.
The PM said, " It is also necessary to do serious homework now on how to utilize the fund, which is growing in size day by day, for nation building.Every worker and employer should invest the money they save in areas that will yield meaningful results."
She said, " I would also like to urge the private sector not to consider the social security of its workers (employees) as a burden, but to consider it as a privilege."
