By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov. 25: Young leader of
Nepali Congress Shankar Tiwari has viewed that NC’s special convention should
be called within next one and a half month as per the party’s statute.
“It is
historical that some 54 per cent NC convention representatives have submitted
signature for special convention. One and a half month has elapsed since the
submission of the signature. It is mandatory for the party as per the statute
to call special convention within three months from the submission of the signature,”
said young NC leader Tiwari speaking at the Reporter’s Club today.
Leader
Tiwari suggested that NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba can extend his tenure
through special convention as the party charter does not count special convention
as general one.
He asked president Deuba to compete for president’s
position in the special convention if he wants to extend his tenure. “I feel ashamed
to have to lecture our seniors on democracy,” he said.
Leader Tiwari
called the use of Deuba’s signature for party registration in the Election
Commission as unfortunate and wrong, especially in the context of handing over of acting presidency to
Purna Bahadur Khadka.
“When
president Deuba assigned acting responsibility to vice president Purna Bahadur
Khadka, the action spread a positive message. But, now his use of signature in
EC purpose has sent a wrong message as he is trying to activate his presidency.
“His becoming active again will not be good for him nor for the party and neither
for the country.”
