Katari, Nov 17: Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has informed that upgrading of the Siddicharan Highway would begin soon.
Minister Ghising assured of road upgrading while receiving a memorandum submitted by the Katari-Ghurmi road struggle committee. He assured of multi-year contract within a month for the upgrading of the Highway.
The Katari-Ghurmi stretch has been worn out, creating sheer inconvenience to the passengers and vehicles alike.
"I've also traveled through its road, and am of aware the problems. I'll immediately direct the subordinates to forward upgrading it," Minister added.
This information was shared by the struggle committee coordinator Leela Bahadur Khatri. It was also shared that Rs 4.12 billion was allocated for the reconstruction of this Highway. The Katari-Ghurmi section, which is a 47-km stretch, of the Highway is full of defects, prompting the locals to block the roadway in a bid to exert pressure on the authorities concerned for timely repair.
The roadway full of defects has also created hassles to the travelers from Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu and Khotang district.
The Highway had come into operation three decades back, linking the upper Sagarmatha districts to the southern plains. It is one of the shortest routes to link country's hill to Tarai in the eastern belt. (RSS)
