By Anil Parajuli,Hetauda, Sept. 21: The Bagmati Provincial government has collected above Rs. 2.5 billion revenue during the first two months of the current fiscal year.
According to the data provided by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning of the Bagmati Province government, around Rs 2.76 billion in revenue was collected by mid-Septemebr of the current fiscal year 2025/26.
The data shows an increase in the revenue collection of the Bagmati Province government in the first two months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. The revenue collection is Rs 106.946 million higher during the review period as compared to same period last fiscal year 2013/14, said Indraraj Sanjyal, an officer of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning.
In the current fiscal year, the provincial government has collected revenue through house registration fees, value added tax, excise duty, vehicle tax and entertainment tax.
The highest source of income for the provincial government is the revenue from vehicle tax. According to Sanjyal, revenue of around 2.08 billion has been received from the distribution in the current fiscal year. Which is 6.74 per cent of the total revenue received.
In the current fiscal year, the provincial government has collected Rs. 31 million from the property registration fee, Rs. 611 million from value added tax received through distribution, Rs. 207 million from excise duty, Rs. 1.2 billion from vehicle tax, and Rs. 96,000 from entertainment tax. Similarly, around Rs. 406,000 has been collected from the advertisement tax. Similarly, the provincial government has collected Rs. 649 million from its own sources.
Expenditure stands at Rs. 1.22 billion
The Bagmati Province government has spent a budget of Rs. 1.22 billion during the first two months of the current fiscal year. According to the ministry, out of the total Rs. 67.47 billion budget allocated by the provincial government for the current fiscal year, only Rs. 1.22 billion has been spent during the first two months. It is only 1.81 per cent of the total allocation.
Of the total expenditure of Rs. 1.22 billion, budget of Rs. 1 billion has been spent under the heading of recurrent expenditure and Rs. 146 million under the heading of capital expenditure.
According to the ministry, the provincial legislature has spent budget of Rs. 16.5 million on recurrent and capital as of mid-September while the Provincial Public Service Commission has spent Rs. 14.8 million, the Office of the Chief Attorney Rs. 16.68 million, the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers Rs. 15.27 million, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning Rs. 11.29 million, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Land and Administration Rs. 27.31 million, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Rs. 75.76 million.
