blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 18: The government observed a day of national mourning on Wednesday to honour those who lost their lives during the recent protests organised by the Gen-Z group in the Capital and other parts of the country.

In tribute to the deceased, all government offices across Nepal, and Nepali embassies and missions abroad, were closed for the day, and the national flag was flown at half-mast.

The protests, held on September 8 in the Capital, were aimed at demanding corruption control, good governance, transparency and resist the erstwhile government’s decision to impose ban on social media including Facebook and 25 other social sites.

During the demonstrations, police gunfire resulted in the deaths of 19 individuals on the first day on September 8. Nationwide protests erupted the following day, on September 9, in response to the incident. Over the two days of unrest, a total of 73 persons, including both security personnel and protesters, were killed, and numerous public and private properties were set on fire.
