By Jayakrishna Yadav,Inaruwa, Sept. 15: The Armed Police Force (APF) seized over 5,000 kilograms of cannabis from Itahari, Sunsari.

According to Baraha Battalion Pakali of the APF, the contraband was recovered from two trucks parked at Syarsokali Petrol Pump in Itahari.

As per the details provided by the battalion, 158 sacks containing more than 5,000 kilograms of cannabis were recovered from truck number Na. 4 Kha 2901 and mini-truck number Ba. 5 Kha 1169, both stationed at Syarsokali Petrol Pump, Itahari-5.

The trucks, along with the seized cannabis, have been taken under control. The weighing process of the contraband is underway, and preparations are being made to hand it over to the District Police Office after completing formal documentation.

Security sources have said that this is the first time such a large quantity of cannabis, more than 5,000 kilograms in two trucks, has been hauled in Sunsari.

Police have suspected that traffickers might have attempted to smuggle the cannabis by taking advantage of the ongoing Gen-Z movement.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Suman Kumar Timilsina of Sunsari District Police Office said that they had received unconfirmed reports regarding the seizure of around 5,000–6,000 kilograms of cannabis from Itahari by the APF.
