By Chandra Pandak,Taplejung, Sept. 14: ife in Taplejung has begun returning to normal after the curfew and prohibitory order, imposed for the past four days due to the Gen-Z protests, were lifted on Saturday.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Shivraj Sedhai had enforced the restrictions from Wednesday morning, citing possible threats to law and order from demonstrations, riots and unrest linked to the movement. The measures had left daily life severely disrupted.

The situation began to ease after former Chief Justice Sushil Karki was appointed as interim Prime Minister on Friday night, following which the District Administration Office lifted the orders from Saturday, said Information Officer and Assistant CDO Sandipa Khadka.

The district had been under prohibitory orders during the day and curfew at night since Wednesday.

Meanwhile, as part of the nationwide protests, demonstrators in Taplejung staged rallies against corruption. Several public buildings were attacked, including the administrative office of Phungling Municipality, which was vandalised and set on fire.

Offices of political parties such as the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rastriya Swatantra Party were also damaged.

Similarly, a health post and a tea house built in the Pathibhara area were torched, while two tipper trucks and a storehouse of the Upper Tamor Hydropower Project were also set on fire in attacks claimed by the Gen Z group.
