By Our Correspondent,Palpa, Sept. 9: A total of 28 groups performed the Lakhe dance on the same stage in Palpa.
At the 15th Grand Lakhe Dance Exhibition held in Ramapur Municipality-5, Bejhand, various styles of Lakhe dance were showcased to preserve and promote the culture of the Newar community.
The exhibition, organised by the Rampur Newa Society in collaboration with the conservation initiative Newa Deya Dabu Rampur Municipality, featured performances from the Palpa, Syangja, Tanahun, and Nawalpur regions.
Children, youth, adults, and the elderly from the Newar community, dressed in traditional Newari attire, participated in a market parade alongside the Lakhe dance.
Banu Ram Shrestha, President of the Ramapur Newa Society, said he has been organising the programme continuously for 17 years to educate the new generation about traditional customs and culture.
Rudra Narayan Shrestha, Chairman of Ramapur Municipality, stated that the Lakhe dance exhibition has played a significant role in preserving and promoting the Lakhe dance, which was once on the verge of extinction.
Bimal Shrestha, Secretary of the Ramapur Newar Society, added that the exhibition has provided an opportunity to learn about and understand the different types of Lakhe dance unique to the region.
Raju Prasad Shrestha, Chairman of the Lumbini Province Economic, Industry, and Tourism Committee, inaugurated the exhibition. During the tour of the Bejhand market area alongside the exhibition, the sounds of musical instruments reverberated throughout the market.
