By Netra Shahi,Jumla, Sept. 8: A socket bomb was defused inside the premises of the District Coordination Committee (DCC) Jumla on Sunday morning.

According to DCC Chief Gaurinanda Acharya, the explosive device was discovered while workers were constructing a boundary wall.

Following the report, personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force reached the site and secured the area.

The bomb disposal squad from the Nepali Army’s Devidutta Battalion, Jumla, successfully defused the device, Major Rameshwar Karki confirmed. A loud explosion was heard during the neutralisation process.

Locals suspect that the rusted socket bomb dates back to the Maoist insurgency period. On November 13, 2001, then-rebel Maoists had attacked Jumla, and the explosive could be a remnant from that time.

Fear had spread in the morning after the bomb was found inside the DCC compound, but the situation has now returned to normal following its disposal.
