By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 5: Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung was formally adorned with the insignia of the rank during a ceremony held on Thursday morning at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadee conferred the insignia on the IGP as a three-star general at the event organised by the Ministry this morning.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary Duwadee said the government had entrusted Khapung with the command of the Nepal Police based on merit, efficiency, and seniority.

He underscored the pivotal role of the police in maintaining peace, order, good governance, crime control, and social justice across the country.

“It is our collective duty to ensure that every citizen feels safe. The effectiveness of the police is measured not only by law enforcement but also by their ability to remain close to the people and serve as partners in their joys and sorrows. We are confident that IGP Khapung will elevate the prestige of the Nepal Police while boosting the morale of officers of all ranks in the days to come,” Duwadee remarked.

He further cautioned that criminal activities are becoming increasingly complex and multifaceted, stressing the urgency of robust crime control mechanisms to safeguard justice in society.

Addressing the ceremony, IGP Khapung pledged to fulfill his responsibilities with integrity and dedication. “I will do my best and will never do wrong,” he affirmed, adding that his leadership would prioritise the welfare of personnel and institutional reform.

Highlighting the growing challenges in crime investigation, Khapung said there is a need to enhance the police force’s capacity to combat cybercrime, artificial intelligence–driven offences, cryptocurrency-related crimes, and transnational criminal networks.

Recalling his journey from a rural village in Tehrathum to the helm of the Nepal Police, he stressed the necessity of equipping the institution with modern technology and adequate resources.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of the Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, Chief of the National Investigation Department Hutaraj Thapa, senior officials from the ministry, and high-ranking police officers.
