By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 5: Nepal’s U23 team made a disappointing start in the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers, suffering a 4–0 defeat to hosts Tajikistan in Group K on Wednesday night in Dushanbe.
Tajikistan took the lead in the 39th minute through Amadoni Kamalov, who broke past Sumit Shrestha down the right and set up Azizboev.
After a clever touch, the midfielder smashed the ball into the top corner.
Just before half-time, Azizboev missed a chance to double the lead, firing over from close range.
Ten minutes into the second half, Muso Qahorov broke through Nepal’s defence but hit the side-netting.
The hosts finally doubled their lead three minutes later when Kamalov delivered another cross from the right, and Azizboev headed in from near the six-yard box.
Tajikistan sealed the win with two late goals.
In the 90th minute, Rahmatshoh Rahmatzoda struck a first-time shot from the edge of the box, and moments later, Daler Sharipov slid a low effort past goalkeeper Krishal Moktan.
Nepal will face Syria next, followed by the Philippines.
Only the group winner will qualify for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
