By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 5: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that critical thinking is essential for making democracy strong and prosperous.
Speaking at a ceremony organised to launch Rajeshwor Nepali Abhinandan Grantha at Sheetal Niwas on Thursday, the President noted that democracy should be regarded not only as the best form of governance but also an opportunity to build the nation by embracing democratic ideals and values as a way of life.
The book was launched by organising a ceremony by the Rabindra Shah Memorial Foundation on the occasion of Rajeshwor Nepali's 83rd birth anniversary.
The President underlined that every citizen should contribute from their respective positions towards fulfilling the long-standing responsibility of building a nation committed to socialism, based on democratic norms and values.
According to President Paudel, this is vital to achieving the aspirations of sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity, while instilling dreams, hopes, and trust among the people.
Highlighting the close relationship between democracy and journalism, President Paudel said that professional journalism plays a pivotal role in strengthening democracy. He noted that only under a democratic system can journalism function freely and carry out its professional duties without hindrance.
“This interdependent relationship between democracy and journalism should further strengthen both sectors. Political and journalistic institutions must remain dedicated to economic development, social transformation and improving the daily lives of ordinary citizens,” he said.
The President also reflected on his acquaintance with Rajeshwor Nepali, describing him as a staunch democrat and nationalist, a fearless journalist, and a man of simplicity with progressive ideals.
He said Rajeshwor Nepali consistently proved himself not only as a poet and writer contributing to language, literature and culture, but also as a crusader for democracy and a practitioner of mission journalism.
