By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept.2: Hamro Laghukatha Kendra has awarded prizes to the winners of the valley-level secondary school short story competition.
The Kendra, Dakshinkali, publicly announced the results and distributed prizes at an event held recently in the capital. Samip Jung KC from Green Hill School, Pharping, secured first place, Suman Bhandari from Balbikas Boarding School, Budhanilkantha, took second place, and Durga Pariyar from Mahendragram Secondary School, Changu Narayan, won third prize.
The consolation prize was awarded to Sneha Adhikari of Trinity Secondary School.Dr. Shekhar Kumar Shrestha, Acting Chairman of Hamro Laghukatha Kendra, stated that cash prizes of Rs. 7,000, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and a consolation prize of Rs. 2,000, along with certificates, were presented to the winning students.
A decision-making committee for the competition was formed under the coordination of writers Navaraj Rijal, Ram Kumar Pandit, and Tara KC.
Shreeom Shrestha “Rodan,” Chairperson of the Nepal Srashta Samaj, said that such competitions provide an opportunity to inspire students toward literary awakening.
Tulsi Hari Koirala, President of Hamro Laghukatha Kendra, emphasised the importance of cultivating the habit of creating and reading literary works alongside formal education.
Similarly, Uttam Raj Tripathi, Principal of Lalitpur Secondary School, highlighted the significance of programmes organised by literary associations to inspire children and encourage literary development.
A total of 31 students from various schools in the valley participated in the competition.
