By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 2: General people can exchange clean currency notes from September 14 as the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has arranged to circulate clean notes considering the major festivals of Dashain and Tihar.
Issuing a public notice, the central bank of the country has said that it has made arrangements for exchanging clean and fresh bank notes from September 14-26 targeting the Dashain festival.
Clean bank notes can be exchanged by the general consumers from Currency Management Department of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Thapathali.
Similarly, the facility of exchanging clean bank currency notes will also be available at its provincial offices in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.
Apart from the NRB, the general public can exchange notes at the branch offices of banks and financial institutions across the country.
Nepal Rastra Bank, which had been distributing new notes for Dashain, has recently started distributing only clean notes.
While NRB has traditionally distributed new banknotes in denominations of Rs. 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 for the festive season, it has recently shifted its focus to circulating clean and fresh notes instead of freshly printed notes.
This decision is part of the bank's strategy to reduce the risk of new notes being quickly damaged with use of colour in the festive period.
The move is aimed at ensuring availability of quality currency notes for ritual use and festive exchanges while promoting the habit of using well-kept notes.
