By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 30: With the release of ‘Kosedhunga’ on Thursday and ‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress’ on Friday nationwide, many Nepali films are now being released simultaneously in cinema theatres.

Apart from the two new films, ‘Kosedhunga’ and ‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress,’ other highly publicised Nepali films such as ‘Magne Raja,’  ‘Janai Harayeko Manchhe,’ and ‘Mohar,’ which were released earlier, are still being screened in theatres across Nepal. Almost all of these films feature a highly popular cast.

‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress,’ directed by Samundra Bhatt, tells the story of a transgender character from the sexual and gender minority community.

Najir Husen plays the lead role, portraying a transgender woman in the film.

Along with Husen, artistes Sanchita Luitel, Sushil Sitaula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari have also played significant roles in the film.

According to the film unit, this is Nepal’s first full-fledged film based on a transgender story.

All post-production work for the film, like editing, colour grading, mixing, sound design, and background score, was executed in a Hollywood style and was completed abroad, claimed the production team.

Likewise, ‘Kosedhunga,’ directed by Saroj Poudel, whose all-time blockbuster ‘Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi’ left a lasting impression last year, will also be screened in the USA, Australia, Japan, the UK, Canada, and many other countries.

The film features artistes Surakshya Panta, Aryan Sigdel, Reecha Sharma, Manjil Kumar, Niti Shah, Prabin Khatiwada, Hiwala Gautam, Saroj Khanal, Bishal Pahadi, Dinesh Kafle, and Lokmani Sapkota.

Another Nepali film, Mohar, which tells the story of the ‘Deuki’ tradition and features Paul Shah, Niti Shah, and Benisha Hamal in leading roles, was released on August 8 and is still screening in theatres.

Alongside Nepali films, Hindi-language films are also being released in Nepal.

‘Coolie,’ starring Indian superstar Rajinikanth, released on August 14, is still running in Nepali theatres. It is Rajinikanth’s 171st film.

Likewise, the Bollywood film ‘Param Sundari,’ a romantic comedy directed by Tushar Jalota, was also released on Friday in Nepali theatres. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.

In addition, ‘Vash Level 2,’ an Indian Gujarati-language supernatural psychological horror film, was released on Thursday in Nepali theatres.

Likewise, ‘War 2,’ starring Hrithik Roshan, N. T. Rama Rao Jr., and Kiara Advani, an action thriller released on August 14, is still running in Nepali cinema halls.

Another film, ‘Noise,’ a South Korean supernatural horror thriller directed by Kim Soo-jin, was also released in Nepali theatres on Friday.

Though audiences have multiple film choices this week, Nepali films are facing intense competition due to several films being released in cinemas.
