Sindhupalchok, Aug. 5: More than 25 households in Jethal, located in Ward No. 5 of Lisankhupakhar Rural Municipality, are facing high risk of landslides following the appearance of significant cracks on the ground.
The affected area lies along the border of Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts, where over 50 metres of land has fissured, placing the entire settlement in danger. Jethal village is situated just below the cracked land.
In response, local authorities have begun relocating residents to safer areas. Continuous rainfall has heightened concerns that the fissured land could trigger a major landslide. Lisankhupakhar Rural Municipality Chairperson Raju Lama confirmed that temporary shelters are being constructed to house the families living in rickety areas.
Initially, the families were accommodated in the homes of relatives and neighbours. Among those temporarily relocated to neighbouring houses are Chartudhwoj Joshi, Dandadhwoj Joshi, Lila Bahadur Joshi, Surban Raj Shrestha, Dal Bahadur Shrestha, Dharma Singh Shrestha, Mishrilal Shrestha, Tekbahadur Shrestha, and Birbahadur Shrestha. According to Chairperson Lama, efforts are underway to move other vulnerable families depending on the evolving risk situation.
