Kathmandu, April 29: The Committee for Monitoring and Evaluating the Implementation of the State's Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations has advised the government to bring policies and programmes that promote environment-friendly infrastructure development and sustainable tourism.
During a meeting held today, the Committee stressed the need for incorporating environmental considerations into infrastructure projects and tourism operations. It presented formal submissions to the government outlining recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025–26).
Committee President Thakur Prasad Gaire submitted the recommendations to Minister for Defence Manbir Rai, urging the government to adopt policies addressing challenges in the operation of mines and industries based on river products, as well as improving the supply of these resources.
The Committee highlighted the importance of prioritizing the development of iron and copper industries, jute and garment factories, mineral and petroleum-based industries, and organic fertilizer production. It also recommended that universities develop and implement curricula aimed at producing skilled workforce for metal-based industries such as iron, steel, and copper.
Additionally, the Committee called on the government to establish new industries, revive the sick ones, and enforce the compulsory use of domestic products by government and public entities.
In the meeting, lawmaker Lal Prasad Sawa Limbu stressed the importance of implementing constitutional provisions—particularly Articles 24 and 40—concerning the rights of Dalits through concrete policies and programmes.
Likewise, Dilendra Prasad Badu advocated for allocating budgets to revive sick industries, while Hitraj Pandey urged the government to introduce realistic and feasible plans instead of overly ambitious ones.(RSS)
