By Sahara Limbu, Phungling, Mar.26: Taplejung Suketar Airport is set to resume operations after three and a half months. Regular flights are set to resume from next Saturday, after nearly three and a half months of suspension.
Flights to Taplejung were suspended since December 13 after two aircraft belonging to Nepal Airlines Corporation were grounded.
The aircraft took off from Kathmandu in the second half of December but had to return midway due to bad weather.
Kumar Gurung, an employee of Nepal Airlines Taplejung, said that preparations are underway to operate Kathmandu-Taplejung-Kathmandu flights from next Saturday as the repairs of one aircraft have been completed for the time being.
According to him, for the time being, one flight per week has been arranged.
Gurung said that the fare for Taplejung-Kathmandu has been fixed at Rs. 9,270.
The lack of air flights in the district has affected the elderly, who cannot travel by car, and citizens who want to go to well-equipped hospitals for treatment.
Passengers from Taplejung, Panchthar, and Tehrathum fly through this airport.
