Good Governance Promotion Act brought to streamline public service delivery: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu, March 23: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has made it clear that the government has brought the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Promotion of Good Governance and Public Service Delivery in order to amend the existing Acts which have been seen as impediments to promotion of good governance and public service delivery in the country.     

Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, said this in the meeting of the National Assembly on Sunday while responding to lawmakers' queries that came up during discussions on the proposal seeking consideration on the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Promotion of Good Governance and Public Service Delivery, 2081 along with the message received from the House of Representatives.     

"The bill contains very positive and good provisions, which will make service delivery more effective, there is no room to oppose it,” he said.     

Stating that good governance and effective public service delivery were the need of the hour, Minister Gurung urged the upper house of the Federal Parliament to support the bill by passing it.     

Lawmakers Dr Beduram Bhusal, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Tulsa Kumari Dahal, Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami, Tul Prasad Bishwakarma, Yubaraj Sharma, Indira Devi Gautam, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Rajendra Laxmi Gaire, Dr Anjan Shakya, Taraman Swar, Bhuvan Bahadur Sunar, Gopal Bhattarai, Renu Chand, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma, Sharada Devi Bhatta, Suresh Kumar Ale Magar and Sri Krishna Prasad Adhikari took part in the discussions on the principles of the bill.     

On behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Minister Gurung presented a proposal for consideration of the bill in the National Assembly meeting held on March 21.     

The main opposition Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) had objected to the bill, reasoning that it was not introduced as a replacement bill.     

Proposal approved     

The proposal for consideration of the bill has been approved by a majority.     

National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal on the occasion announced that lawmakers who wanted to amend the bill could register the amendment proposal in the Bill Section of the Assembly. (RSS)
