Kathmandu, March 16: Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire has urged the opposition parties not to indulge in creating confusion by covering up the achievements made in the country and the positive changes seen in the living standard of the people.
Speaking during the 'special time' in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, he said that there has been a major change in the situation after the country adopted the federal democratic republican system. "The country's development and good governance have been promoted and hope and confidence are being aroused among the people."
He alleged that in such a situation, confusion is being created among the people that nothing is happening in the country in the new dispensation under various pretexts and urged the concerned parties to stop such activities immediately.
"It is the duty of the opposition to suggest ways of correction if there is a disagreement in any bill. Why is there objection to formulating a law allowing for hemp farming and many development works are being hampered due to the law related to forests? It is the responsibility of the opposition parties to raise their voices on such issues. But attempts should not be made to mislead the people by promoting such narratives as nothing positive has happened in the country and the country is nearing doom," Ghimire said.
The NC Chief Whip stressed the need for investment in infrastructure development in roads, drinking water and sports sectors. Stating the private sector has not been allowed to open medical colleges and engineering study institutes, he pointed out that it would be difficult for the government alone to operate such institutions and all should pay attention to this.
Lawmaker Ghimire stressed the need for all to work diligently for the development of the country by increasing capital expenditure and preventing the migration of youth. He opined that those bringing in more than Rs 15 billion in remittances into the country should not be ignored.
"In the past, countries like Japan and Korea also sent their citizens for employment abroad. Today, Chinese citizens are in every country. Tourism has not been able to earn even Rs 100 billion in foreign exchange. Not enough foreign exchange has come in from the energy and information technology. But can those who bring in so much remittance be ignored,” he questioned.
He said that in the 19 years since the country came into the peace process, the Nepali society has changed a lot and the standard of living of the people has improved.
"People's access to technology has increased, not only the system but also the situation has changed. Therefore, I urge you not to make negative comments," the NC Chief Whip said. (RSS)
