Nepalgunj, March 14: Construction of a model settlement for the disadvantaged communities has begun in Kohalpur, Banke.
The settlement has been constructed
for Chidimar and Khatik families living in municipality-14, Havaldarpur at a
cost of Rs 4 million.
At the initiative of the
municipality, the Neighborhood Service Society (NSS) will build houses for the
most disadvantaged Chidimar and Khatik communities.
Kohalpur Municipality Mayor Purna
Prasad Acharya said eight houses have been constructed in the first phase under
the model settlement construction programme.
He said the construction of the
model settlement has been put in place realizing it a duty of the local
government to raise living standard of the poor families.
The NSS is also planning to build
houses for the poor communities in other places under the model settlement
construction programme.
According to Kohalpur-14 ward chair
Nam Bahadur Ale, around 30 families of Chidimar and Khatik communities live in
Havaldarpur. He informed that Rs 4 million has been spent for eight houses and
pledged to channelize support from the local government for toilets, water and
