Salyan, Mar. 2: Government schools often struggle to secure financial resources, but a single-handed effort by a headmaster in Salyan has raised Rs. 4.6 million.

Dharma Raj Gharti, Principal of Nirajan Secondary School in Siddha Kumakh Rural Municipality-3, has launched the "Nirajan Secondary School Self-Reliance Campaign" to make the school financially independent.

Since its inception on October 3, 2021, the campaign has raised Rs. 4.6 million.

Gharti initiated the fund with his own allowance and has been leading the campaign single-handedly.

As per his plan, the principal amount of the collected funds will remain untouched, while the interest generated will be used to meet various school needs.

The primary objective of the fund is to make the school self-reliant, provide scholarships to talented students facing financial difficulties, address minor financial issues of the school and invest in educational improvements.

With a target of raising Rs.10 million, Gharti has also pledged to contribute Rs. 200,000 from his life insurance after his demise.

To further strengthen the school sustainably, another initiative, “Add a Brick, Donate a Day’s Meal to Nirajan”, has been introduced. So far, 136 people have participated, to reach 100,000 contributors.

Gharti’s bold and inspiring initiative has introduced a new dimension to the education sector. Such campaigns to make government schools self-reliant could serve as a model for other schools across the country.
