BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Feb. 27: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers residing both in Nepal and abroad on the occasion of the Maha Shivaratri.
In his message issued on Wednesday, the President emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural and religious heritage found throughout the country, including the Pashupati area. He stated that it is our responsibility to pass on the heritage we have received to future generations in its original form, while also ensuring that landmarks like the Bagmati River remain clean and pure.
He said, “The relationship between Lord Shiva and the land of Nepal is described in various Vedic scriptures. The sacred Pashupati area in Nepal is a matter of pride, not only for us but for all Hindus around the world. Therefore, I believe that Nepal has always remained the centre of spiritual contemplation for devotees worldwide who consider Lord Pashupatinath and Kirateshwar Mahadev as the embodiment of Lord Shiva.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Ramsahay Yadav also extended his heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and good health to all Nepali sisters and brothers both at home and abroad. He said that the sacred festival inspires everyone to renounce desires, anger, greed, attachment and ego and establish peace, purity and love in Nepal and across the world and provide an opportunity for spiritual advancement.
He said that Maha Shivaratri offers an opportunity for self-purification, meditation and spiritual growth. Fasting and meditation during this time help improve both physical and mental health. Through the worship and devotion to Lord Shiva, it strengthens religious faith and belief, while aiding in the purification of one’s mind,
speech and actions.
He also extended congratulations and best wishes to the Chief of Army Staff and all ranks of the Nepali Army on the occasion of Army Day, celebrated on the same day as Maha Shivaratri as the day provides an opportunity to remember the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the armed forces.
