Acid attack survivor Sah granted citizenship

blog

By Laxmi Chaudhary,Janakpur, Jan. 8: Aarti Sah, who was battling for her identity after surviving an acid attack, has successfully obtained her citizenship after a long three-year struggle.

On Sunday, Sah was granted citizenship by the District Administration Office, Dhanusha. For her, this achievement is not just about gaining a legal right but symbolising justice and equality.

Aarti has faced numerous challenges in her life. In addition to enduring physical, mental and social rehabilitation after the acid attack, she had to fight a prolonged battle for her fundamental right to citizenship.

“Life is all about struggles. I am very happy to have obtained my citizenship after so much effort. Life will now be a bit easier for me,” she shared her happiness.

The Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Ramuraj Kadariya, explained that although there was a delay in issuing Aarti’s citizenship, it was eventually granted after the necessary procedures were completed.

He added that the delay was caused by Aarti’s in-laws' reluctance to provide the identification needed to issue the citizenship.

“We called her father-in-law and brother-in-law for identification, and after completing the required processes, we were able to issue Aarti’s citizenship,” said Kadariya.

Four years ago, Aarti endured an acid attack by her husband due to which she faced significant physical and mental trauma.

The absence of citizenship further exacerbated her plight. Aarti’s inspirational struggle and eventual success in obtaining her citizenship will encourage other victims to fight for their rights.
