By Sujal Shrestha, Pyuthan, Dec.30: Local women of Phopli, Naubahini Rural Municipality-8, took a pregnant woman by carrying in a stretcher to a health facility on Friday evening.

The rescue group led by Kumari Pun Magar carried nine pregnant women from Kurjheni village of Naubahini Rural municipality on stretchers and took them to the health institution.

The woman, who was taken to the health post after being carried for one and a half hours by locals in a stretcher, had a safe delivery.

The health post has formed mothers' groups in various wards for the door and support of pregnant women.

Chief of the health institution Prakash Ghimire said that mother groups have been formed in 45 wards.

He said, "The number of men in the village is very low so we have formed a rescue group to rescue and support pregnant women. Stretcher has also been provided to that group."

Health post chief Ghimire said that stretchers have been provided in 30 places.

He said that a group of six people has been formed for rescue in each ward because of the lack of transportation in many places. The involvement of the group has been increasing and has led to minimized home delivery rates.

As a result, the number of home births is decreasing, according to the statistics of the health center.

13 people gave birth at home in the fiscal year 2079/80, while all 46 women had a hospital delivery a year later in the fiscal year 2080/81. In this financial year too, home births are zero.
