Crossing Karnali by using tuin compulsion even for ex-minister

blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Dec. 26: The necessity of crossing mighty rivers using risky tuin (cable), is a common challenge not only for ordinary people but also for the people-elected representatives and former ministers in Karnali Province.

During their visits to meet the voters and monitor development projects, people’s representatives in Humla have no option but to rely on tuin to cross the mighty Karnali River.

Former Energy and Water Resources Minister of Karnali Province, Ransingh Pariyar, said that he also had to use a tuin cross the Karnali River during his visit to villages to meet the people.  He is also a sitting member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly.

He said that when he was travelling to Reep village in Sarkegard Rural Municipality-2, Humla, he had to cross the Karnali by a tuin fixed by a local individual.

Since there was no other alternative route to reach the village, he had to use the cable with others, he said. Although the government has announced the replacement of tuins with bridges, the implementation of this announcement has not yet been realised in Humla.

Former minister Pariyar urged the government to replace these tuins with cable cars or suspension bridges. Previously, local-level elected representatives were using tuins to cross the river, but this time, even senior leaders and former ministers from the district had to use them.

There are still four tuins in the district, located in places like Loti Karnali in Chankheli Rural Municipality, Dulli Kuna, Lapche in Sarkegard Rural Municipality and Lali Bagar in Kharpunath Rural Municipality.
