Remnants wins Nepali Panorama Award NHRIFF

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 13: The 12th edition of the Nepal International Human Rights Film Festival (NHRIFF) concluded on Thursday at the Nepal Film Development Board presenting ‘Remnants’ directed by Dhanraj Barkote, the Award under Nepali Panorama category.  

  ‘Devi’, a documentary by director Subina Shrestha, won the Best Female Filmmaker Award and ‘Black Rain in My Eyes’ won the Best Short Documentary International.

Likewise, ‘The First Film’ won in the short fiction international category.

The awards were distributed by Thakur Gaire, Member of Parliament, Dinesh DC, Chairperson of the Film Development Board and Pandav KC, Chairperson of the Nepal Human Rights Film Centre, among others.

 In the concluding event, Documentary Feature International was presented to ‘Where We Used to Sleep’ while the Best Feature Narrative International went to ‘All We Imagine as Light’, directed by Payal Kapadia.

The festival, held under the theme ‘Collective Rights’ took place on December  9 at the Nepal Film Development Board and the Nepal Tourism Board. 

A total of 53 films from various countries were screened during the event.

Before the festival, renowned Indian filmmaker Nilotpal Majumdar conducted a four-day workshop attended by young filmmakers from Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, among others.

The festival opened with ‘All We Imagine as Light’ and concluded with ‘In the Belly of a Tiger’.

 Documentaries and films that had won awards at prestigious festivals like Cannes and Berlin were also showcased during the event.

At the concluding event, Dinesh DC, Chairperson of the Film Development Board, requested the rights to digitise the movie ‘Numafung’, based on Limbu culture. The director of Numafung, Nabin Subba, who was present in the audience, gladly accepted the proposal.

Dinesh DC further announced the Board’s plan to digitise 10 films, including ‘Numafung’, from 16mm reels to full HD quality for archival purposes at the concluding ceremony of the festival.
