Nepalgunj reporter Khan gets Ambedkar Fellowship

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Nepalgunj, Dec. 10: Gorkhapatra Corporation’s Nepalgunj correspondent Siraj Khan has been honoured with the Ambedkar Fellowship Award in New Delhi, India.  

The Indian Dalit Literary Academy recently presented the award during its 40th National Conference, recognising Khan, and another journalist from Banke, Dr. Dakta Prasad Dhital, for their contributions to advocating for the rights of marginalised communities through their writing. Both journalists received the Bhimrao Ambedkar Fellowship Award 2024.  

Sangh Priya Gautam, a former Indian government minister and peer of Bhimrao Ambedkar, Dr. Manoj Kumar Yadav, a senior official of the Indian government, Sohanpal Sumanakshar, the president of the Indian Dalit Literary Academy and others were present on the occasion. The honourees were presented with certificates, medals and ceremonial shawls during the event.  

The conference also brought together senior writers, literary figures, freedom fighters, high-ranking government officials, members of parliament and leaders of Dalit movements from India, Nepal and Bangladesh. From Nepal, Dalit leader Uttam Kumar Pariyar also participated in the event. He announced plans to organise a similar programme in Nepal next year.
