By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 5: Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh said that there is a need of modern and sustainable development approach suitable to Nepal.
Speaking to “ARCH BUILD EXPO 2024”, Minister Singh said Nepal has been experiencing rapid urbanization. He pointed that there is also a need for a large scale foreign investment, expertise and technology to develop a robust infrastructure.
DPM Singh said, “The development efforts are getting affected by the disaster ushered in by climate change. So the significant challenge is to explore solution for sustainable development of cities and communities”.
He said that ancestral knowledge and locally explored architecture, construction style, tangible and intangible heritage created by knowledge and hardship of our ancesters from our diverse geography, climate and social and culture are our vital assets.
Singh added, “This has helped creating an employment, economic opportunities and utilization of local resources and skills. But current construction style has overshadowed the original architecture”.
I feel like there is a need of modernized sustainable development of Nepali aspect preserving Nepali architecture which is our Nepali identity asset.
DPM Singh said,“Nepali is going through rapid urbanization. The tendency of people migrating from villages to cities for opportunity. Urbanization is rapid and there is no alternative of its appropriate management”.
