Wind farm awaits maintenance

Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), Dec 1: The Wind Energy Centre, once a model project at Rudrapur in Dhauwadi Danda of Hupsekot rural municipality-5 in Bardaghat Susta East, has been non-functional due to lack of repair.    

Launched in 2068 BS with financial and technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the project cost Rs 2 million. However, it has been rendered useless due to the failure in turbine maintenance and the need to replace old batteries.    

According to Ward Chair Padam Bahadur Rana Magar, when the project was operational, it produced 10 kilowatts of electricity daily and ran at full capacity for some years.    

Rural Municipality Chair Laxmi Devi Pandey complained that their repeated requests to the Alternative Energy Promotion Center for project restoration have been ignored.

"They promised to send a technical team to assess the situation, but nothing has happened so far," she said. The local representative added that the local government's budget is insufficient to address the issue. (RSS)
