By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 23: CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is confidently progressing towards achieving the goals of development, prosperity and good governance despite the hatching of various conspiracies and the spread of disinformation.
Addressing a public awareness mass rally organised by the three valley district committees of his party at Durbar Marg on Friday, PM Oli clarified that the current coalition government would remain intact until the next general election.
He urged everyone to work towards economic prosperity by opposing chaos and instability and promoting communal harmony in the country.
He firmly stated, “Any kind of fraud, smuggling, corruption, character assassination and obscenity is unacceptable. The UML and the Nepali Congress have united to address the country’s challenges and move it forward.”
He expressed concern that a conspiracy is being hatched to undermine democracy and the status of the sovereign people, which the Nepali people have achieved through big struggles and sacrifices.
“The CPN-UML has always been, and will continue to be, a watchman and soldier for the country and its people,” he added.
No one can destabilise the current government and no one can shake the current political equation, he said, adding that the government would work to discourage actions that spread hatred in society and communities.
Highlighting the government’s firm stance against crime and corruption, Prime Minister Oli asserted that no one involved in illegal activities would be spared.
He emphasised that the UML and Nepali Congress formed the present government for stability and good governance.
Dismissing the rumours and criticisms labelled against the government, he remarked, “Despite many rumours, we will not run after illusions.”
He added, “The Nepali people are resolute in their commitment to a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalis while preserving the pride of their culture. The people will not be deceived by those who engage in fraud and point fingers at others.”
Prime Minister Oli stated, “Those attempting to divide society and create chaos through undemocratic means are jeopardising the future of the sovereign people. We must remain vigilant against such actions.”
“The country and its people are our top priority. We must remain firm and united to safeguard their future,” he added.
Similarly, he also rejected the rumours that he had invested in Cambodian Telecom, citing that they were being spread to disrupt the country’s economy and monetary policy.
Prime Minister Oli asserted that individuals who had amassed billions and made their children wealthy were the ones to accuse him of corruption.
He challenged his critics to face him in a debate on the matter.
“I want to tell my friends, the leaders of various parties. You are pointing fingers at the CPN-UML. Can you truly argue with the CPN-UML? Can you debate with facts? If you claim Rs. 32 billion in Cambodia, Rs. 21 billion in other countries, and so many thousands in Swiss banks, you should verify it. There is no point in making such baseless claims. These things are being spread to disrupt and destroy the country’s economy and monetary policy,” he said.
Focus on national interests
Prime Minister Oli expressed optimism about his upcoming visit to China.
He clarified that the visit would not merely be a formality but would prioritise the welfare of the nation and its people.
“We will adopt a policy of minimising loans and focusing on increasing production,” he stated.
Prime Minister Oli dismissed comments suggesting that his decision to visit China first instead of India was immature, labelling them as ‘nonsense’ and referring to those making such claims as ‘cowards.’
He further stated that those who refuse to repay bank loans were threatening the country’s economy.
The Prime Minister claimed that the power cuts and the failure to collect dues from industries as per the bill, were actions carried out by forces which want to destroy the country’s economy.
Speaking at the same event, CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel stated that the country’s lack of development was a result of political instability.
He said that developing the country was not possible without visionary leadership, strong political parties and political stability.
He highlighted that despite having more than 28 prime ministers in 35 years since the restoration of the multi-party system, development has remained elusive due to the lack of political stability.
The mass rally was attended by party officials and cadres of the three district committees. The party claimed that the mass rally was to raise awareness among the people against anarchy.
The rally began at Bhadrakali, passed through New Road Gate, Bir Hospital, Ratna Park and Tri-Chandra Campus before culminating in a mass assembly at Durbar Marg.
