By Our Correspondent,Humla, Nov. 21: Locals in Halji of Limi, a village beyond the Himalayas in Namkha Rural Municipality-6, Humla, now are facilitated with electricity for 24 hours after the installation of solar panels in each household.

Kunkyap Tamang, a local from Halji, said that with the free installation of solar panels, Limi village had been illuminated. He said that the micro-hydropower system constructed in the past had deteriorated and stopped functioning, which had compelled locals to use pinewood torches for lighting. Now, the issue had been resolved, he added.

Paljor Tamang, Ward Chairman of Ward 6, said that after addressing the villagers' demand, solar panels were installed in every household, providing round-the-clock lighting. He said, “Each home is equipped to power six lights, including exterior lighting, which has made the entire village of Halji glow brightly at night.” He informed that a total of 90 solar panels were installed, covering 87 households in Halji, the Til Monastery and two households in the Jang village.

Assistant Engineer Nawang Lama from the Water Supply, Irrigation and Energy Development Office informed that 100-watt solar panels were installed in all households of Halji on a subsidy basis. He said that the villagers' demand for proper lighting was fulfilled through this initiative, which was executed with technical support from the office.

Additionally, a 10-kilowatt solar system was installed for the monastery in Halji to ensure electricity supply. The office allocated a budget of Rs. 4 million for the project. Residents of Halji have received the solar panels free of cost.
