By A staff reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 14: Social activist Saroj Kumar Ray was honoured with the International Excellence Award amid a special ceremony held in Kathmandu recently.
The award presented by the Kashiyana Foundation of India recognises individuals who have made a substantial impact across various social causes, and Ray’s tireless efforts have earned him this accolade among a select group of nearly 30 recipients
Activist Ray was honoured for tireless and consistent efforts and contributions for organising campaigns and protests and advocating for a wide range of issues, including the rights and security of foreign employment, farmers' rights, conservation of Chure and forests and allocation of land for homeless families.
Ray, a renowned social worker and activist in the country, has been instrumental in addressing critical issues such as education for underprivileged children, support for marginalised communities, anti-human trafficking efforts, foreign employment assistance, environmental protection, and disaster relief.
He has helped countless Nepali migrant workers facing harsh conditions abroad, notably saving the lives of those under death sentences and aiding victims of human trafficking.
His dedication extends to providing relief during natural disasters, organising community health initiatives and advocating for fundamental human rights. His impactful actions have garnered him several honours, including the Prabal Jana Sewa Shree Padak, the National Social Welfare Award, and the Social Hero Award.
The ceremony was graced by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, and other distinguished personalities, including Shyam Jaju, Patron of Kashiyana Foundation and former Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Dushyant Gautam, General Secretary of BJP… and Dr. Keshar Jung Baral, Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University.
