Pokhara, Nov. 11: Filmmaker Prakash Sayami has announced the production of a biographical film based on the life of the legendary singer Narayan Gopal.

At the launch event of his book, Swar Samrat Narayan Gopal, in Pokhara, he shared his plan to make a biopic on singer Narayan Gopal.

“I am adapting my book, Swar Samrat Narayan Gopal, into a film. With this project, I am making my comeback as a director,” he said.

Sayami clarified that he had not abandoned filmmaking but was only taking a brief break and was now returning to the field. Sayami had directed a few popular films in the 1990s, including Simana.

Later, he shifted his focus to radio, stepping away from filmmaking. Now, nearly three decades later, he has announced his return to filmmaking with this new project.

Sayami, the author of the book, emphasised Narayan Gopal’s deep connection to Pokhara.

He added that after marrying Pemala, Narayan Gopal came directly to Pokhara, where he also developed a close bond with poet Bhupi Sherchan, further strengthening his ties to the city.

Sayami said that the book launch in Pokhara felt like a homecoming for him.

“I have a unique attachment to Pokhara. Coming here uplifted me, established me further, and I received warmth and love.”

Senior literary figure Sarubhakta described Sayami’s book as a valuable document of research.

The book launch was organised by Everest FM 93 MHz, broadcast from Pokhara.
