By Avinash Chaudhari, Dhanagadhi, Nov 8: Dhanagadhi Sub-metropolitan City has provided cremation costs to 466 families in a year.

The sub-metropolis provided a sum of Rs. 5 thousand to each poor family to purchase wood for the cremation of the dead.

The poor would use tyre to burn the dead due to the lack of money to buy wood for the funeral. The Sub-metropolis started to provide allowances for cremation to the poor family so that they could buy wood for the cremation rituals.

Padam Bahadur Gaire, police inspector and the City police chief, informed that two city police personnel reach the household of the poor family with the cash for cremation once information about the death of a person in a poor family is received in the toll free number of the Sub-metropolis.

The City police also offer tribute in the form of salute to the dead while wrapping the body with the City flag, he said.

The Sub-metropolis has also been providing free hearse service to carry the deceased from home to the cremation site. Similarly, if the dead body is to be kept at home for some days, the Sub-metropolis also provides cold storage service to the poor families free of cost.
