Koshi government to relocate unused suspension bridges

By Shashidhar Parajuli,Biratnagar, Oct. 29: Koshi Province is all set to relocate unused suspension bridges from various areas to the locations where they are needed.

The province's Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has decided to transfer the bridges and has already begun the process.

Motorable bridges have been constructed in some areas where people were using the suspension bridges, and they have become useless,  the ministry said.

Similarly, some suspension bridges are built based on the access of the local leaders to the power and they are not useful, leading the ministry to decide to relocate them elsewhere for better utilisation.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, Bhupendra Rai, confirmed that a ministerial decision has been made to relocate the bridges. “The decision has been made to transfer the suspension bridges in the coordination of local levels and demand,” he said.

“The suspension bridges are currently unused. Vegetation is growing on them. We will begin relocating them to areas where they can be put to use,” he said.

Minister Rai has also decided to hold discussions with stakeholders at the project sites to reactivate chronic projects under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure. On Saturday, he held discussions at the project sites with stakeholders, consumers, contractors and local representatives to revive two stalled projects in Dharan.

“We have started discussions with the public, consumers, construction businesses, the ministry and the infrastructure office at the project site to understand why the projects have not been completed,” he said.
