By Prem Raj Simkhada,Kalikot, Oct. 19: Relief distribution has begun for the fire victims in Juwitha of Tilagufa Municipality-6 in Kalikot district.

On Wednesday afternoon, a fire that broke out in a house destroyed three homes, displacing 26 families. Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) Nepal has provided support to the fire-affected families.

KIRDARC Nepal, with the help of Plan Nepal, distributed blankets to the affected families. Mayor of Tilagufa Municipality, Shankar Prasad Upadhyaya, said that KIRDARC Nepal was the first to offer relief to the fire victims.

He said that KIRDARC Nepal and the Red Cross Society arrived promptly with relief materials.

Tularam Pandey, the district coordinator of KIRDARC Nepal, said that they provided blankets to protect the affected families from the cold. The Red Cross provided tarpaulins and the municipality immediately arranged food supplies, including a sack of rice. Mayor Upadhyaya said that the municipality had promised additional support soon.

Three houses were destroyed by the fire. Thirteen families were residing in the house of Nepali Congress leader Manraj Shahi, which was a four-story building.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tek Bahadur Rawat of the Kalikot District Police Office, who visited the incident site, said that the houses were large enough to accommodate several families, resulting in the displacement of 26 families.

A total of 150 members from 26 families lived in the three houses destroyed by fire. Now, all of them are living under tarpaulins. Dharma Raj Shahi, a representative of the Red Cross Kalikot branch, said that the fire victims were in dire need of support.
