Goats worth over Rs. 30 million sold from Banke district

By Our Correspondent,Khajura, Oct.18: Goats worth more than Rs. 30 million have been sold from Banke district ahead of Dashain festival. 

Through various cooperative organisations of the district, goats worth more than Rs. 30 million were supplied from the district.

Fourteen different Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperatives in the district have sold a total of 1,786 goats during the period of Dashain festival.

A total of 1,786 goats weighing 55,826 kg worth Rs. 30.046 million were supplied to different cities of the country through 14 cooperatives located in different places of the district.

Janani Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperatives Society based in Raptisonari Rural Municipality-2, Khoria sold most goats during Dashain festival. 

Manager of the cooperatives Ganesh Khatri said that the cooperatives sold 281 goats (9,146 kgs) worth Rs. 4.9 million during the review period.

Similarly, Roshni Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperative Society in Raptisonari Rural Municipality-7, Phattepur sold 196 goats weighing 7,201 kg worth Rs. 3.8 million. 

Dipalgan Social Entrepreneur Women's Cooperative Society in Baijnath Rural Municipality-8, Tithariya sold 193 goats (6,199 kgs) worth Rs. 3.529 million during the Dashain.

In recent times, farmers have been attracted towards goat rearing in Banke. 

Farmers have been rearing goats in various groups formed through cooperatives. 

Among the eight municipalities of the district, most farmers of Raptisonari Rural Municipality are more attracted towards goat rearing. Farmers here are attracted towards this profession because of the forest area in Raptisonari.

Goats reared by farmers are being sold through cooperatives which make it easy for farmers to sell their goats.

The cooperatives buy goats from the farmers and it sells them to traders outside the district at a profit of up to Rs. 10 per kilo. 

The demand for goats is high during the Dashain than at other times. Women farmers are becoming self-sufficient through goat rearing.
