By Kedar Timilsina,Banepa, Oct. 17Due to damage caused by floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall, vehicle operation has been restricted during nighttime in the Kavrepalanchowk section of BP Highway. The Bhaktapur Road Division Office issued a notice on Wednesday stating that the Dhulikhel-Bhakundebesi-Barsekhola road section of BP Highway will remain closed from 6 pm to 4 am.

Senior Divisional Engineer Suman Yogesh from the Bhaktapur Road Division Office said that the repair and maintenance work on the damaged road track is ongoing, resulting in temporary restriction on vehicle movement between 6 am and 4 am.

He added, “Around 8 kilometres of the road from Bhakundebesi to Barsekhola in the Kavrepalanchowk section of BP Highway was completely damaged by the floods and landslides. A temporary track has been opened, allowing only passenger vehicles to pass.” Yogesh further explained that although a track has been constructed along the damaged Bhakundebesi-Chaukidanda-Barsekhola section, repairs and improvements are still being made to ensure a smoother and safer passage.

He warned that there is still a possibility of dry landslides in the area, which is why the road is being closed during the evenings for safety reasons.

“We issued the notice to halt vehicle movement to prevent congestion and allow us to work on the road at night without disturbances. We want to complete the repair work quickly and avoid any potential damage that could occur during the process,” he added.

Despite the request to avoid evening travel, some vehicles have been disregarding the restrictions, he said.
