Draft of new bill being prepared for further effective police force: Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu, Oct 16: Minister for Home Ramesh Lekhak has said necessary process has been taken ahead by framing draft of a new bill to replace existing legal arrangement for the consolidation of Nepal police organization.     

At a function organized here today on the occasion of 69th Police Day, Home Minister Lekhak expressed his confidence that the legal recognition of the bill would help identify new dimensions for broader welfare of the Nepal Police, career development of police personnel and organizational responsibilities.     

Noting that the Nepal Police is a dynamic organization, he said the organization has honest contributions to the protection of citizens’ sovereign rights, keeping intact the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity and independence.     

The role and working style of the organization has strengthened Nepal’s internal security, Minister Lekhak said, adding, "Nepal Police was at the forefront of various types of developments since its inception. Home Minister Lekhak said it has always been at the forefront to manage any adverse situation, including disaster response.     

"The contribution of Nepal Police with a sense of duty in every period is very commendable. We are confident that the experienced, strong and capable Nepal Police will be able to address any security challenge easily," he said.     

Home Minister further explained that the country has various challenges, including control and prevention of networks of international terrorism, cybercrime, natural disaster risk, cross-border and multi-sectoral crime and money laundering among others, he shared.     

"A strategy can be adopted by realizing and assessing these security challenges. However, most of the security challenges of cyber crime by misusing technology remain beyond our assessment. The risk of crime is increasing due to the misuse of advanced technology. In order to reduce and manage this risk, our preparedness, the implementation of appropriate policies and the development of technological capabilities are necessary. The particular challenge has to be addressed collectively, although the Nepal Police also needs to develop its preparedness and capabilities. There will be necessary support and coordination from the Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard," he said.     

Highlighting an urgent need to address and manage natural developments, Minister Lekhak stressed the need for effective policies and programmes to reduce suicides, road accidents and drug abuse.     

He said the Ministry of Home Affairs was always positive to provide necessary support, coordination and facilitation to every constructive programme brought into operation by the Nepal Police to address all these challenges.(RSS)
