Khajura (Banke), Aug 31: Upgrading of the Paraspur-Gaughat road section has been protracted in a way it has left people in a sheer inconvenience and hassles.

The people, especially from Banke and Bardiya districts use this road for transportation. The contract of the undertaking is expiring after 10 days but the 14-km road has made only 20 percent progress so far.

Moreover, the federal government has invested Rs 140 million for the upgrading of the road.

Engineer at Road Division Office in Nepalganj, Amir Subedi, informed that the road progress is only 20 percent. The contractor was repeatedly asked to complete the work in time, but in vain. The Paraspur-Gaughat section is daily used road by the people from Janaki, Khajura and Bardiya Badhaiyatal including Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.

The contract for the undertaking was made last year. "We've initiated process for legal action against contractor as the work progress is dismal," engineer shared.

As per agreement, the construction needs to conclude after ten days.

The locals had also staged protests, exerting pressure on the concerned sides for speeding up the upgrading. Both the people's representatives and road division office were asked to intensify the upgrading, citing that it was the most used way. (RSS)
