Relief distributed to flood victims in Thame

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 19: Relief materials have been distributed to flood victims in Thame by the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 in Solukhumbu district. 

The relief items were distributed by the local representatives and the federal government officials arrived in the village on Saturday and Sunday. 

The local representatives distributed relief goods along with Rs. 50,000 in cash per family to those fully displaced by the flash flood and Rs. 10,000 per family to those partially affected.

According to the Rural Municipality Chairman, Mingma Chhiri Sherpa, 15 families who were completely displaced were given Rs. 50,000 each, while 30 families who suffered partial damage were given Rs. 10,000 each. 

The Rural Municipality office also distributed Rs. 15,000 per family to 15 families who were completely affected that were provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to Sherpa. 

Chairman Sherpa said that the families of Angdoma Sherpa, Dadiki Sherpa, Mingma Rita Sherpa, Mingma Nuru Sherpa, Kami Tamba Sherpa, Apa Sherpa, Jangbu Sherpa, Mingma Nuru Sherpa, Kami Rita Sherpa, Tashi Sherpa (Yak), Thupten Dorje Sherpa, Ngima Sherpa, Lhatpa Gyaljen Sherpa, Mingma Phuti Sherpa, and Ang Furba Sherpa were completely displaced by the flood. 

Each of them received Rs. 50,000 from the Rural Municipality and Rs. 15,000 provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"Those who were completely displaced by the flood have nothing left for their livelihood; arrangements need to be made for that," said Chairman Sherpa. 

"In these hard times, we have provided Rs. 50,000 in the first phase as relief for the completely displaced families," he said. 

On Friday, two glacial lakes above the Thame village in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 burst, completely destroying 13 houses and lodges, a school, a health post, and the power station of a local hydropower project. Similarly, 10 other houses were partially damaged by the flood, according to an update made by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. Additionally, around 200 metres of the foot trail from Phakding to Namche in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu-3 was also swept away by the flood.
